Today we have reviewed the 'Na-Kel Smith falling' video...

Sponsored by the skating megalodons, Supreme, Fucking Awsome, Hardies Hardware (the list goes on), Nak has earned himself one of the coolest reputations a skater can want. Featured in videos like Pussy Gangster, Nak can be shown rolling and falling in the most elegant way to mitigate injury (which for abbreviation we will call the 'Turtle roll'). Today we would like to explain this phenomenon with simple physics.

So how does he do it? The speed and type of trick are two very important factors in The Turtle Roll: The speed you are going to need to reach is quite fast. Falling over when your slow means the energy you've created from moving has no where to be displaced to, so rolling cannot be performed. The type of trick that needs to be involved is one without Rails or Hubbas- These block and can hinder ones ability to move out of a bad position. The steps involved are as followed...

  1. Land- Landing on your feet to cushion the original impact is vital as it allows stability, as well as, the ability to perform step 2.

  2. Tuck- Tucking your shoulder smoothly into the ground (which looks like your rolling) after you land is going to allow the fall energy to transfer evenly between your legs and shoulder, which is going to help reduce injury. Make sure to tuck your head so it doesn't bash against the ground!

  3. Lift- This step may take some practise as it feels quite un-natural, but bear with. As you roll onto your shoulder, your back and hands need to use the momentum of the fall to push off the ground. If done correctly, you should be able to push off and land back on your feet (with your knees, hopefully, bent to help with stability).

This guide, otherwise known as the Turtle Roll, should help you reduce the injury's you obtain in your skate carer. For more information on it click here...
